Jam good pedigree: Steve holds a bachelor of arts in Music from Boston College (2011), a master of music in Jazz Composition from New England Conservatory (2013), and a doctor of musical arts degree in Jazz Composition from New England Conservatory (2016).
Jamnology: A professional music director with more than a decade of experience in Boston-area theaters, Steve currently works at Company Theatre in Norwell and Greater Boston Stage Company (GBSC) in Stoneham. Steve’s self-produced jazz big band album, Swan Lake in Blue features original jazz compositions based on the Tchaikovsky ballet, and he is producing and music-directing a corresponding full-length stage production, set to debut February 2020. In 2019, he received a Best Music Director nomination from Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) for his work on Ragtime at Company Theatre.
Steve’s plan for the jam: Though he started with classical training, and studied jazz in college, Steve has experience in a variety of popular styles (due to a career in musical theatre) and enjoys teaching all genres. For the last five years he has taught piano to kids and adults at Jammin’ With You, and in addition teaches jazz piano at Boston College. Steve has also taught courses in Music Theory and History of Jazz at Boston College, Clark University and New England Conservatory.
