What’s he jammin on? Drum

Where’s he jammin? In-home lessons throughout Greater Boston

What’s his jam? whatever the student is interested in and will make them excited to come to the lesson and play.

How’d he learn to jam? Michael started playing drums at 10 and took marimba lessons (how cool is that?!) in high school. Out of high school, he attended Berklee School of Music, majoring in Performance, but transferred to Oberlin Conservatory and graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies and Performance.

Who’s he jammin with? As a player in small jazz ensembles, Michael has played throughout the country, including with Oberlin Jazz Orchestra at the Tri-City Jazz Festival in Cleveland and the Ohio State Jazz Festival. For the past four years, he has played the drums at The Barnstormers Theatre in Tamworth, NH, for productions such as Das Barbecue, Spamalot, The Producers, and Damn Yankees.

How he’ll jam with you: At Oberlin Conservatory, Michael was part of a secondary lessons program, where college students and community members could take private/group lessons for college credit. He has 10+ years of teaching experience, and designs lessons around students’ individual interests while incorporating important musical skills like rudiments, reading, and technique. “Ultimately, I want students to have the skills to feel creative and comfortable on their instrument,” Michael says.
