EdJAMucation: Gabriel’s musical journey began with piano lessons at age 7, but really took off when he started playing the drums in his school bands. Since then he has earned a Bachelor of Music in Percussion from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master of Music in Percussion from the University of Delaware.
Jam philosophy: As an educator, Gabriel has led afterschool music programs, marching bands, and percussion groups as well as taught private lessons. He believes that the most important tools for creating successful lessons are communication and adaptation. He tries to listen as much as he teaches and adapt his approach, in response, as needed. The number one marker of success, to Gabriel, is a student who enjoys lessons and can develop the skill of playing an instrument (or instruments) as both a source of enjoyment and a creative outlet.
