Where’d he learn to jam? As a student of classical violin (starting at age 4), Ethan Robbins became first violinist in American Youth Philharmonic, as well as for Boston University Tanglewood Orchestra. At age 14 he learned to play a second string instrument, the guitar. Ethan earned a BA from Oberlin College in 2009.
Extrajamicular activities: With years of performance experience, Ethan has played with many bands in the Boston area, including his current project, an Americana group called “Cold Chocolate,” which just finished recording its fourth record. He has also toured domestically and internationally with Three Tall Pines, Bluegrass: The Band, and Uncle John’s Banjo. On Sunday afternoons you’ll find him running the bluegrass brunch at Loretta’s Last Call in Fenway. Hear some of Ethan’s music.
How he jams with you: Ethan has been teaching private lessons with JWY for 8 years. His main goal is to make sure students enjoy their lessons and have fun. “Once lesson time is a happy and exciting part of my student’s day,” says Ethan, “progressing on an instrument is much a faster, smoother, and more tangible process.”
