OVERVIEW
The saxophone holds a unique place due to its versatility and expressive range. Invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s, this instrument bridges the gap between woodwind and brass, offering a rich, resonant sound that can convey a wide array of emotions. In jazz, the saxophone is indispensable. It captures the genre’s improvisational spirit and has been the voice of countless iconic solos. Legends like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins have demonstrated the saxophone’s ability to push musical boundaries and evoke deep emotional responses. Beyond jazz, the saxophone has made significant contributions to classical music, rock, pop, and even electronic genres. Our instructors go beyond the surface of your typical school band, and our private reed lessons are perfect for students striving for excellence. JWY instructors focus on teaching students the correct embouchure, breath support, tuning, and tonguing techniques (how to articulate on a wind instrument).
To enroll in private lessons, students must be 5 years old or turning 5 within the current school year. If you have a 3-4-year-old aspiring rockstar, explore our JamKIDS class!
